The Liberal Capitalist Party is a Federalist Party
Liberal Capitalists believe that experimentation and decentralization is the best approach to take in complex situations where the best solution is unknown, or cannot be agreed upon. This is one reason why we support a federalist approach to such endlessly contentious American political issues as abortion, same-sex marriage, gun control, public education, and alcohol and drug laws. Such experimentation will produce data that will quickly inform their supporters if their ideas are succeeding or failing. Failed models will be abandoned, and successful programs more widely adopted. The state and local political process will insure that no populace is subject to an experiment that is not subject to vigorous public debate by all parties involved. Federalism was designed to produce just such advancement, and it is still a fully functional and thoroughly American solution today. But there is another, more pragmatic reason for our support of federalism. It allows polities to create communities in which they feel comfortable, without being continuously harassed by those who vigorously oppose them. "You go play over there, and you go play over there" is not a model of perfect justice, but it does keep the peace, as any parent can tell you. And it allows everyone some place to go and live and flower, and contribute their talents to our national success undismayed. After all, no one is going to just disappear. We will always have our minority populations, and they need someplace to stand, too. For this reason we believe that bitter partisans should reassess the cost of their dedication to revolution and total political dominance, and allow their ideological opponents to win in some areas so that they can prevail in others. Once the posture of confrontation has been relaxed, perhaps we can begin to rehabilitate our civil society, and turn away from the ugly, ultimate conclusions of relentless conflict. |
The road to wisdom? Well it's plain
and simple to express:
Err, and err,
and err again,
but less, and less, and less.
