The whole Rove/Plame/Wilson thing just makes my eyes glaze over. Man, who cares? A reporter revealed some info to the Chief of Staff, who then leaked it to some other reporters/gov't types, which may or may not have compromised the "cover" of some office worker who happened to be married to a political bullshitter who was an "ambassador" in the same sense that his wife was a "spy." Smells like Jim Rockford would have uncovered the entire thing in one episode, except the Hollywood writers (justifiably) 86'd the script for being too boring. Maybe if the husband was pretending to be a ghost at an abandoned amusement park to scare off other investors, and if the amusement park was really a terrorist training camp, and if this whole thing ended up with Shaggy and Scoob unmasking Osama bin Laden as just some old guy who didn't want the kids playing on his lawn, then that would be a story.
The vast majority of the middle is going to have to be spinned/schooled on this whole incident to make any impact at all, and I doubt it will work. I have no doubt that Rove did some political things. I have no doubt that reporters are trying to nail him for it. The democrats will try to make some hay out of this, but it's going to come out as cotton candy, because of the first principle: WHO CARES?
I'm reminded of when the Clintons got in (light) trouble for insider trading with the whole Whitewater thing. WHO CARES? I'm sure it matters for the people who went to jail for them, but for me...not so much. That's what unscrupulous rich people do.
I'd like to institute a new test for political chicanery, based on Edwin Edwards. If the citizens of this country elect a guy to be president, I'd like to see him get a chance to fuck things up a little less than the previous guy. If he's less corrupt than Edwards, I say we give him a chance. Perhaps it's my Louisiana upbringing that leads me to make excuses for big-time politicians, but I think residents of other states are missing out on the baseline for fuckery.
Stole the election? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You New Yorkers have never met Leander Perez. Or Huey Long. Rove is a puny weasel compared to those guys and their henchmen...actually, if Rove is any kind of political scholar (I don't know if he is), he must envy the shit that Clyde Vidrine and Edwards got away with.
But I digress. This whole Plame/Wilson thing is such inside baseball that there is zero chance that it will inflame the voters. Unless there is another shoe to drop, such as "GW and Rove starred in a low-budget porno film with Valerie Plame in the early 70s."
Now that would be a good movie.
The road to wisdom? Well it's plain
and simple to express:
Err, and err,
and err again,
but less, and less, and less.
